A chat with Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce Business Spotlight

We recently spoke to the Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce for its Business Spotlight feature and told them all about the business and the history of it. We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to them for featuring us. You can have a read of the piece below.

Can you describe your business, what you do and how do you do it?

“Here at S Roberts Group, we have many services ranging from skip hire and recycling to asbestos removal, surveying, demolition, bulk earth moving and tipper/machine hire.”

What will people get from your business that they won’t get anywhere else?

“Service which goes above and beyond. The key to our success is our staff. We care about each member of our team and in turn they care about the services we provide and the customers who have been coming to us for many years.

“All our customers are treated to a friendly, reliable and informative service with good and regular communication. With so many companies making it so hard for consumers to speak to someone, with extended hold times and confusing phone tree menu options, we focus hugely on customers being able to contact us both quickly and directly.

“We are all about quality and consistency, giving our clients confidence in the products and services we offer, in short, they get what they pay for.

“We have recently been shortlisted for the Sedgemoor Business Excellence awards for ‘Customer Service Excellence 2022’, which is wonderful news and a boost to all our staff to be acknowledged for something we feel so passionate about.”

What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?

“We are a 90-year-old family business, which has been run by the founders two granddaughters, Vicky Owens and Beccy Roberts for the past 25 years.

“We developed our skills from our father, Terry Roberts, and senior members of staff, many of whom had been with the company for more than 20 years.

“Their loyalty, knowledge and skillset has been invaluable to us and those following in their footsteps, they are the steadfast foundation of our long and continued deep roots in Bridgwater.”

If you could go back to the beginning knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

“As women, in a what was and still to some extent is, a male dominated industry, in the early days we had more confidence walking on to all male construction sites and engaged more openly with clients in these somewhat daunting situations. Time has allowed us to grow both in confidence and knowledge, which we have learnt from those who may be on the tools, to the managers and leaders within our industry.”

As someone doing business in Bridgwater, how does the Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce help you?

“Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce has always been both engaging and supportive to local businesses in the heart of the Bridgwater community, like ours, offering many networking gatherings from breakfasts with guest speakers to summer social BBQs and dinners. The opportunity to meet like-minded companies has been both valuable and productive in continually moving forward in what are often challenging times.”
